Battletech: The Frontier Lands

The underground map is a dark and somewhat confusing map of caves and tunnels. Naturally, flying units, jumping, and artillery/mortars do not function in here. Sensor range is severely limited, and the paths are often tight and winding.

Unit Production Facility

Beneath the planet's surface lies a large unit production facility. Periodically it goes active and lots of attractive units are built. Factions are obviously quite eager to get their hands on these. There will be a global announcement when the facility goes active, giving you a bit of notice to get down there and be ready for when the factories crank up.

Getting Underground

To get your unit to the underground, go to your spawn room and respawn/ug. This will put you on your faction's underground elevator hex.

Objectives

The unit production facility is broken up into objective nodes, which are capturable by the factions. Every 30 seconds, a score count for each faction is increased based on the number of nodes it owns.

  • To see who owns which nodes, use the Image:Command.gif underground (or Image:Command.gif .udg if you have the default macro set added) command.
  • The point value of each node is shown within the list.
  • On the bottom of the display are score totals and objective counts for each faction.

Claiming Objectives

To claim an objective, first Image:Command.gif lock the associated objective on the map. Get within range 1 of it and type Image:Command.gif claim. This will instantly transfer ownership to your faction. The objective won't be claimable for 30 seconds by another faction. This recycle time is listed on the Image:Command.gif underground command.

Winning and Rewards

"In the Underground, everyone is a winner." Corny, but true in a sense that for a little bit of effort, everyone participating will get some kind of reward unless their faction really just blew it badly. To "win", a faction must be the first to get to the point total shown on the lower right of the Image:Command.gif underground command.

  • In the event that two factions exceed this amount, the one with the highest point total is the winner.
  • In the unlikely event there is a tie, one faction will be randomly chosen from the tied pair.

For each hundred points a faction scored, every participant will receive a handful of charges for one 3055 or higher unit. The actual "winner" just gets the most units. Rewards are given in the form of Limited Availability Units.

Note: You will only be eligible to receive a reward if you have been within 10.0 hexes of one of your faction's objective claims. The best way to ensure your eligibility is to complete at least one claim yourself.

Returning to Base

To return to base, type rtb while on the HQ hex shown on the bottom of the underground command's display.

Notes and Tips

  • While having a number of heavy and assault units is good, it is perhaps even more important to bring some strikes and other more mobile units. Objectives are instantly captured and stay claimed for at least 30 seconds. Strikes are great at grabbing underguarded objective and zipping around quickly.
  • VTOLs and Artillery don't work underground.
  • Visibility is severely limited underground and you will only be able to see small portions of the map at any given time. Ranged units are therefore only somewhat effective.
